About the Thomas F. Meagher Foundation
The Thomas F. Meagher Foundation works with schools and communities across Ireland to promote pride in, and respect for, the Irish Tricolour as a symbol of peace, inclusion and active citizenship. Named after Thomas Francis Meagher, the first to publicly fly the Tricolour in 1848 and later a Brigadier General in the US Army, the Foundation draws on his legacy of leadership, courage and service.
Each year on Flag Day, 16 March, thousands of students raise the Irish flag and celebrate the many nationalities represented within their school communities. This moment of shared respect reflects the Foundation’s vision of a modern Ireland where people of all backgrounds, traditions and identities feel included and valued.
The Foundation also supports a national Awards and Scholarship Programme, giving young people the opportunity to explore citizenship, diversity, heritage and community involvement. These initiatives help foster confidence, empathy and leadership among Ireland’s next generation.
By choosing an Irish-made Tricolour, you are supporting this mission and helping promote a more inclusive and respectful expression of Irish identity.
